Milk Toffee
New Year sweet, With Ingredients available in the USA
Milk Toffee is a Sri Lankan New Year sweet made with Condensed milk. It’s sweet, fudgy, and nutty. It pairs well with a nice cup of black tea.
Ingredients
Condensed Milk 1 cup
Shredded Coconut 1/2 cup
Water 1/8 Cup
Little less than 3/4 cup Sugar
Butter 2 tbsp
Vanilla Essence
Cashews & Peanuts 1/8 cup (about 2 tbsp)
Raisins
This recipe makes about 20 pieces
How to Make
Combine Condensed Milk + Sugar in a pan, heat on low heat
Now add 2 tbsp of butter and mix
You will have to continue mixing this until the end
When the mixture is bubbling up, add shredded coconuts ( Shredded coconuts can be bought from Asian Market or Walmart)
Now Continue Mixing
Add a few drops of Vanilla
Keep Mixing
When the mixture is turning brown and thick, add nut mixture
Fold everything and continue mixing
Remember heat should be on low. Continue mixing as the mixture will burn if you stop mixing
The mixture will continue thickening, when the mixture looks like how it is in the picture below, take it off from the heat
Consistency check: Try to divide the mixture into two while the pan is in the heat and mixture should slowly clamp together. It's tricky to get the correct consistency. If you leave it too long in the heat, milk toffee will be extremely tough to eat. If you took the mixture out too early, milk toffee will be too soft to eat.
Prepare a cutting board with flour beforehand. Spread the mixture onto the floured surface.
Flatten using a plastic wrap. Apply some butter in the wrap and use that to flatten the dough, then it won’t be sticky. The thickness should be about 1/2 inches
Make deep cuts before hardening the mixture so it will be easy to cut into pieces
After about 10 minutes, Mixture should be hard, you can now cut the Milk Toffee into pieces and serve
Enjoy
