Subway Hoagie Rolls ( Easy Vegan bread)



Homemade Hoagie Rolls make the best sandwich. Nothing beats a loaf of fresh homemade bread, and these vegan hoagie rolls are exactly like subway bread.


I made mine with half all-purpose flour and half wheat flour. Depending on your preference you can make it like me or use only all-purpose flour.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup of warm water

  • 1 tablespoon yeast

  • 1 tablespoon sugar

  • 1 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 4 tablespoons olive oil

  • Flour - 2 options depending on the preference.

  • About 2 1/4 to 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

  • Half all-purpose flour and half whole wheat flour

Topping

  • Garlic Powder + Oregano+ Pepper+ Nutritional Yeast

  • Oats + Chia Seeds

  • Sesame Seeds

  • Any herbs and vegan cheese

How to make

  • In the bowl of your stand mixer, add the water, yeast & sugar. Let the mixture stand for 5 minutes until foamy

  • Now add in salt, and olive oil.

  • Add 1 cup of flour and mix in with the dough hook for 3 to 5 minutes

  • Add a cup of flour and mix until well combined. (Continue adding the flour, 1/4 cup at a time, until a soft dough is formed) The dough should still stick to the bottom of the bowl but pull away from the sides. Let the dough mix for around 8 minutes total.



  • If you are using your hands, slowly mix it using the hand, it will be very sticky in the beginning. Continue mixing and knead for 5-8 minutes

  • When the dough has come together but is still sticking a bit to the bottom of the bowl, turn it out onto a lightly floured surface.

  • Knead the dough from hand until smooth. The dough should be very soft. It will take about 3-6 minutes

  • Shape the dough into a ball and return it to the bowl.



  • Cover the bowl with a clean cloth and allow the dough to rise for an hour.

  • After the dough has risen, punch the dough down, turn it out onto a clean surface and make it into a log.





  • Divide it into 4 pieces, Each weighs about 154g ( I used All purpose flour and wheat flour mix)



  • Flatten one dough ball, Make it into a rectangle share, it should have a length of about 6-8 inches.




  • Roll each piece into a long skinny loaf. Pinch to secure the roll



  • Now Cut from each edge so you have smooth edges


  • Now prepare the herb mix, lay it on a parchment paper



  • Apply some water on top of one log using a pastry brush, roll the top in the herb mixture





  • Make 3 cuts from the top


  • Cover with a plastic wrap ( not touching the top) and let it rest for 45 minutes

  • Meanwhile, towards the end of the rising time, pre-heat the oven at 350 F

  • When the loaves are ready, Bake for 23-25 Minutes


  • Now take out of the oven and right away cover with a dishcloth and let it rest for 5-10 minutes


  • Now you will have, fluffy soft subway hoagies rolls.

  • Best serve warm.

  • Enjoy with your favorite topping

  • I used avocado paste ( chopped avocado+ salt+pepper), veggies and top with some vegan mayo mixture ( Mayo+ Salt+papper+Cayenne pepper+ Hot sauce+ Lime juice)
